Glacier National Park--St. Mary Lake

12 June, 2013

Knowing that the Logan Pass on the Going-to-the-Sun would be closed, we decided to spend our first day in Glacier National Park seeing the east side of the road up to the closure. This part of the road runs along beautiful St. Mary Lake.

A glaciated mountain.

As the road rose toward the Logan Pass, Eric took a picture looking back at the lake and mountains.

Beautiful mountains.

More lovely mountain scenery.

It didn't seem like we had gone very far along the road before we came to the closure.

Eric took a picture of the Jackson Glacier.

Beautiful, glacially-scraped mountains.

A mountain so high it still had snow on top.

We didn't have time for a waterfall hike, but we did a very short hike up to Sun Point for an earth cache. It was a lovely viewing spot.

More of the scenery from Sun Point.

Interesting moss or lichen I found on the way back to the car.

The scenery is just as amazing as I expected! I wish we could go over the glaciated saddle of the Logan Pass. Our timing wasn't right for that, but we have certainly successfully avoided crowds.

On to Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta.
