Little Egypt

The plan for this day had been to see the outskirts of a remote part of Canyonlands National Park called the Needles. But when I looked at road conditions in the morning, I saw that there was a long detour on what had already been an all-day drive. We spent too much time reconsidering the days plans, and eventually decided to travel from Hanksville to Moab over the long southern route and see Natural Bridges National Monument.

We made a stop at another set of goblin hoodoos called Little Egypt, a Bureau of Land Management Scenic Backway. The parking lot was empty when we arrived, and, until we were heading back toward Mather, we had the place entirely to ourselves.

Eric found a vertebra on the ground.

We continued south on UT 95, descending deeper and deeper through geologic layers, until we crossed the Colorado River in the Triassic Moenkopi Formation. We stopped to see the view from Hite Overlook in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

On to Natural Bridges National Monument.
