Proudly updating our pages every 4 years... whether they need it or not. %-}

Let us introduce ourselves. Hi, we're Beth (née Klohck) and Eric Zuckerman. We were married on July 27, 1991, in Albany, NY. In May of 1993, we moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, and live in Berkeley (although we used to live in Albany, CA). Being concerned about our impact on the environment, when we bought our house (the Zuckershack) in January 2000, we made sure to be centrally located, so we could bicycle or take transit everywhere we could. (Here's a close-up of our really cute shutters). Eric even biked to his job as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer for Sybase -- but now he works as a consultant. Please see Eric's résumé. Beth rides transit to a law firm in San Francisco. Please see Beth's résumé.

One major hobby of ours (and the one responsible for our getting together) is reading speculative fiction books. We annually attend BayCon. We really, really, REALLY like Spider Robinson (we met him and Jeanne at WorldCon '96 in Anaheim), and also Neal Stephenson, Ted Sturgeon, John Varley, Harlan Ellison, Neil Gaiman, and others too numerous to mention.

Another activity we really enjoy is playing games. We have a decent collection of board, strategy, and card games, many of which are from Looney Labs and Cheapass Games. In 1997, we founded our monthly games group, the Berkeley Area Gaming Roto-Salon (BAdGeRS). Eric also does demo-volunteer stuff, both for Looney Labs as a Mad Lab Rabbit, and as a Cheapass Demo Monkey. And, he's a distinguished Icehouse player/fan. One more thing: he's mighty proud to be listed in the credits for Chrononauts.

Eric, as we've mentioned, is an avid cyclist (mostly transportational, with a little recreational), and has participated in events hosted by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Bicycle-Friendly Berkeley Coalition. His other major form of physical activity is Aikido Shusekai, and this "pacifist martial art" has become one of his life's passions. He practices at the Berkeley YMCA, and recently (Apr 2000) earned his nikkyu (brown belt) in this style. Even more recently (Oct 2000), he stepped up to the challenge of filling a vacancy in the teaching rotation.

Beth is a very frequent swimmer, yoga practitioner and weightlifter (also at the Berkeley YMCA), and she also takes classes in American tribal-style belly dance with Frederique David. She also grows vegetables in the back yard of the Zuckershack. She tries to keep her mind active and regularly takes on new learning projects. Click here for information on Beth's philosophy.

Moving to the house meant that we could finally get a different human-powered vehicle, the canoe we always wanted. "The Weeble" is an Old Town Discovery 158. As of the end of Summer 2000, it has been in an inlet of San Francisco Bay (at the Berkeley Marina), Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park, Shadow Cliffs Reservoir, and Lake Tahoe/Emerald Bay State Park.

In addition to the above hobbies, we both are into photography. Want to see some photos of and by us (and, we warn you now, our cats)? We're also working on a page of travelogues.

Now that you've met us, you can meet some of our friends, too, if you're of a mind to.
